Successful Language Learners

Are you a successful language learner?

In my many years of teaching, I have met all sorts of language learners from successful ones, slow-but-consistent ones, stop-and-start ones and only very, very few who are quite unsuccessful.

Many of you believe that you are in the last category, but believe me! It’s not true. In my experience, the unsuccessful language learners don’t really want to learn a new language at all. These people don’t enjoy learning about different cultures or meeting new people. They don’t like being in different situations and usually don’t like to travel.

If that’s you, then I’m sorry. I won’t be able to help you improve your English skills.

But I don’t think that’s you! You wouldn’t be reading this post if you were that person. I also don’t think you’d be reading this post if you were proficient. You’d be reading Shakespeare or some other highly esteemed author. No, you’re probably like most of the world when it comes to language learning, sometimes slow and steady and sometimes stopping and starting. That’s perfectly fine and it seems to work for about 99.9% of my students.

Enjoying the Journey

We are all intermediates, and we simply enjoy the process of language learning. That alone makes you a successful language learner. Almost all of you who are reading this, are very good at English, or at least well on your way. Enjoy the journey and don’t worry about the destination. We’ll all get there in our own time.

Most of my students start out at a low intermediate level and slowly progress up the ladder. Some are quicker than others, but all of them enjoy the journey as we go.

Well On Our Way!

I consider all of them highly successful! Don’t let those language marketers tell you any different. If you are here and wondering how you can improve, then you are already successful! With a little extra help, you’ll feel good about your English abilities and start to take on new challenges like watching movies instead of short YouTube videos, reading English books, having deep conversations and much more.

See you around!
